BANKSA Under 17 competition.

Round 1 v East Torrens

ET batted first and compiled 5/199 off the allocated 50 overs.  Karl Button with 2/17 and Adam Isted 1/30 best with the ball. The boys fell an agonising 6 runs short in a great chase and finished 6/195.  Stuart Coles (86) batted superbly with solid support from Travis Lane (33), Matthew Stopp (18) and some late hard hitting from Kyron Burgess (19no)

Round 2 v West Torrens.

Batting first Woodville were rock and rolled for 82.  Expecting a quick chase from the opposition our opening bowler Kyron Burgess with an inspired 4/7 after 3 overs and a couple of run outs saw the opposition at 6/22.  West Torrens batters then settled and passed our score after 25 overs 6/85.  Kyron with 4/11 off his allocated 6 overs the standout performance.

Round 3 v SACA U15 (match reduced to 40 overs due to heat)

SACA U15 compiled 4/200 with a solid performance from their batters. Luke Francesca  with an excellent spell of bowling finishing with 2/17 from 6 overs.  Five an over was always going to be difficult and a good start from Coles (33), Stopp ( 34) had Woodville 4/100.  Travis Lane batting very well was unfortunately run out for a well compiled 50 and Woodville struggled home 7/139.

Round 4 v Kensington

Woodville batted first and reached a solid 170 from 50 overs with Stuart Coles (52), Travis Lane(54) continuing their great form with a fantastic 100+ partnership and a fine effort from young Luke Francesca (26) ensured we batted out the overs.  Kensington passed us 4/172 in the 42 over with Luke Francesca ensuring a fine all-round performance with 2/12 from 6 overs.

Round 5 v Country Black              Cancelled due to heat policy

Round 6 v TTG

Important game this as the boys were yet to have a victory.  TTG batting first were bowled out for 160 after their 50 overs.  Adam Isted who had been bowling well all week finished with 3/20 and Richard Carter bowling offspin returned a fine 3/31.  All bowlers bowled very economically at around 3 runs per over.

Openers Coles(16) and Carter(19) got off to a solid start and a 60 run partnership between Matthew Stopp and Travis Lane (30) saw Woodville 3/105 after 35 overs.  Matthew Stopp (66no) timed it to perfection with a controlled chase to pass the score in the 49th over.  Solid support from Karl Button in a valuable partnership with Stoppy in the final 15 overs.  A very good all round performance by all the players and a well deserved win.

Round 7 v Northern Districts

ND batting first made 9/179 with Luke Francesca 3/31, Adam Isted 2/28 and Richard Carter 2/32 continuing their good bowling performances.  Travis Lane with a superb 93no and Stuart Coles (42) steered us to victory as we compiled 7/183.  Good support for Travis from K Burgess, A Maidment and Ryan Thomson

Summary

Although 2 wins and 4 losses the final result it could easily have been 3/3 or even 4/2.  The U17 Squad this year introduced some new players from the mid-north zone and two first year players from our under 16’s.  This is a solid group of players for next year’s squad and we look forward to their development next season.

Congratulations to Stuart Coles and Travis Lane for making the Bank SA U17 team of the year.  Just reward for their consistent performances during the tournament.

Our appreciation to Tim Cameron (Coach), Mark Stopp (Team manager) and scorers Brenton Maidment, Ivan Coles, Brenton Isted, Richard Burgess and to all the supporters.
